Layer your look

The weight of a fabric is inconsequential, since seasonal dressing is all about layering

George Kotsiopoulos

Just like an onion, an outfit should have layers. Layers within fashion can make your outfit go from basic to advanced with the use of addition clothing. When layering there really are no limits. It all depends on what look you are striving for with your fit. Some looks can focus on being bold, classy, or colourful. It all depends on the look you are attempting to achieve and the weather where you are going to be. For example, during the colder months layering can be adding additional long sleeve tops, t-shirts, and sweaters. In the fall and spring when the weather is inbetween warm and cold layering can just be an oversized baggy t-shirt with a long sleeve top underneath. Another fall/spring layering look could be a long sleeve top with a sweater or cardigan overtop of it. During the summer months, layering can involve sheer tops with t-shirts. For boys it can be t-shirts with tank tops.

Overall the secret to layering is using black and white tops with other coloured layers. The black and white layers will balance out the colours within other tops. The ultimate reason to use layers is to add depth within outfits. Having mutliple layers to your look will make your fit look elaborate and more interesting.

Accessorize for the occassion

Accessories are like vitamins to fashion

Anna Dello Russo

It is a common misconception that accessories are only for woman. Luckily in 2019, this false ideology is being proven wrong everyday. Earrings, necklaces, belts, chains, satchels, and bags. These are all accessories that can make any outfit so much more appealing. The only reason some people do not use accessories is because they either have never worn them or are unsure on how to style them with their outfits. The secret behind the right accessories is the style of your outfit. Certain accessories are meant for different fashion styles. Some fashion styles include streetwear, sport wear and buisness casual.

The style of your outfit determines the accessories that should accompany it. For instance, if you are wearing streetwear accessories that emphasize your look could include belt strap chains, belts, sunglasses, fanny packs, or plain earrings. These accessories apply to both male and female outfits. For example, the man on the left is wearing a streetwear outfit with the accessory of a belt strap chain. The chain on his pants adds the look by making his black pants more than they are. In the image on the left, the woman is wearing a belt strap chain with a thick black belt. The chain adds to her black pants and makes her overall outfit look better. In this example, you can clearly see that without the use of accessories in their outfits these people would not have better outfits. Accessories are clearly the finishing wow factor within outfits.

Your Shoe Solemate

Shoes are the finishing touch on any outfit and it is important to complete a look with the perfect pair

Tracy Reese

As a sneaker lover, I take a lot of time when choosing the perfect pair of shoes to match any outfit. If anything I usually have my shoes ready before my outfit. Shoes say alot about a person. For instance, if you typically wear comfy shoes like moccasins or uggs, you’re a person that primarily cares about comfort. On the other hand, if you always wear dress shoes you care about being classy at all times. Most people believe that many shoes can go with any outfit. On the contrary, not all shoes go with any outfit. Think twice before wearing the same shoe everyday.

So now you’re probably questioning how to pick out the right shoes. Well it is very simple. You base your shoes off of the weather, outing, and outfit. First off if the weather is rainy and cold you’re not gonna wear your best pair of shoes. Instead, you wear a pair of beater shoes. By this I mean shoes that you’re not worried about getting a little dirty. The shoes are still nice but definetly not your best shoes. For example, it could be the shoes that are already worn out or old. If the weather is looking good, you can pull out the shoes that are the best in your collection. This means the shoe that you spent the most on or like the best. Another factor to think about is where you are going. The occasion could be that you’re going to work. The shoes you should be thinking of are the beater shoes. You never know if something could get spilled on your kicks while on the job. On the other hand, if you’re going out with friends or just to shop then you could choose one of your clean shoes. The last factor to consider is the outfit you’re wearing. Lets say you had a rough morning and just want to be in comfy clothes. The shoes you wear should reflect the comfy vibes that your clothes put off. This means that you should not be wearing your classiest shoes with sweats. However, lets say you’re having a day where you’re really feeling yourself and have on a well put together outfit. In this situation, you can wear shoes that are the cleaner ones in your collection. For example, in my collection I have a pair of Classic Reeboks that are worn out and creased. I wear them whenever the weather is rainy, I have to go to work, and I’m in comfy sweats. On the other hand, I have a pair of Salt Yeezys by Kanye West. I only wear these when the weather is nice, I have to go out with friends, and I have on a great outfit.

The Importance of Colour

All colours are the friends of their neighbours and the lovers of their opposites

Mark Chagall

At some point in everyone’s life the colour wheel was introduced. Most people think that which colours go together is basic knowledge. However, lots of outfits are thrown together and can cause people to get the wrong kind of stares. Every day is not supposed to be a fashion show. However, when you look good it makes you feel good. When putting an outfit together most people choose an outfit that reflects their mood and the weather. Many forget that the colour wheel is a helpful tool for matching colours within outfits. On the colour wheel, the colours that look best together are the ones that are diagonal to eachother. If you’ve ever heard of the saying that opposities attract it is accurate when colour matching.

On the other hand, many colour combinations look extremely wacky when placed together. For example, green and orange. The warmth that orange brings does not combine well with green. Weird colour combinations can also come from a lack of shades. White, Black, and Grey are your friend when coming up with outfits. Having too much colour in one outfit can just cause an outfit to be chaotic rather than classy. This means that in every outfit a shade should be included to balance out the colour. The same goes for an outfit that is entirely of shades. Having a hint of colour in an outfit that could be entirely black or white will give the outfit just enough pizzazz.
